The Exwell Hydrostatic Bailer is used to remove sand, salt, paraffin, scale and other debris from thetubing, when pump type hailers have been ineffective. The tool consists of an upper assembly with a chamber, which is sealed at atmospheric pressure, and alower assembly that houses a shearable piston. The running procedure is straightforward and choices of shear pins are available which allow theoperator to match the tool to well parameters. Downward jarring shears the pin that holds the piston inplace and the differential pressure at depth ensures that the debris is drawn in to the chamber. Thedebris is then contained within the tool by either a ball or flapper type check valve. Great emphasis is placed on safety and as a result the upper assembly incorporates a pressure reliefvalve, which prevents the cylinder from being over pressurized, and therefore eliminates the need tobleed off pressure at surface following down hole retrieval.
